Herbs & Spices

ANISEED STEADY The H1N1 flu pandemic did not materialise, which has taken the pressure off Aniseed which was deemed to be a local remedy in China.
BASIL STEADY The market is steady with good availability of herb to carry through to the next crop in September.
BAY STEADY The ongoing market position is that the supply of WI Bay Oil is good and price is stable.
BUCHU WEAK The combination of low price and lack of demand has stagnated the market.
CAPSICUM FIRM The new crop coming onto the Indian market now is expected to ease the supply chain. It is too early to say what will be the effect on prices.
CARAWAY STEADY Availability of Caraway Seeds is freeing up on the market in advance of the crop season. Prices have eased slightly.
CARDAMOM FIRM There is continued chronic shortages of Cardamoms on the market, with consequent sky-high prices.
CASSIA FIRM Offers of Chinese Cassia Oil are still difficult to obtain from origin.
CELERY HERB STEADY For economic reasons farming of Celery Herb in England is being wound-up this year. This is a great pity as we have been working with a local farmer on his crops for the past 20 years. There are sufficient stocks to carry us through until such time as a new source is developed.
CELERY SEED FIRM The new Indian crop due in May is looking healthy, but the area under cultivation is reduced due the unfavourable price on the market. Thus the market remains firm.
CHAMOMILE STEADY No change in the market to report during the low season.
CINNAMON LEAF STEADY The market is stable.
CINNAMON BARK STEADY The market is stable.
CLOVES FIRM Prices of all Clove products and derivatives are high due to the worsening market situation.
CORIANDER LEAF FIRM The market is firm but prices remain stable.
CORIANDER SEED FIRM Prices of Coriander seeds have been erratic lately. Generally buyers have the impression that the market is softer. This is not necessarily reflected in the price of Coriander Seed Oil, which remains quite firm. Demand remains weak, and it depends on the positions with dealers jostling with their stocks ahead of the 2010 in September.
CUMIN FIRM The Indian Cumin Seed crop has just completed with bumper output. Due to low carryover and high export demand, prices are not expected to weaken.
DILL SEED FIRM The market remains firm.
DILL WEED FIRM The market remains firm.
FENNEL FIRM The market is short due to adverse weather, poor seed-stock and other poor crop management issues which are causing falling yields per hectare.
FENUGREEK STEADY Stable market.
GARLIC FIRM The market remains short in China due to increased domestic demand for fresh Garlic. The frequency of adulteration of Garlic Oil is on the increase again.
GINGER CHINESE FIRM The continuing high demand for fresh ginger is keeping the market firm.
GINGER OTHER FIRM In Nigeria, shippers have withheld material which has caused a chronic shortage on the market. After a delay of nearly 3 months, new crop material started to be shipped at prices close to the already high price of Cochin Ginger. This has left an opportunity for other lesser origins, and Ethiopia is filling a need.
JUNIPER STEADY Stable market.
LAUREL STEADY Stable market.
LEMONGRASS STEADY Stable market.
LITSEA CUBEBA WEAK The market remains weak.
LOVAGE STEADY Crops grown in Eastern Europe continue to be readily available with no problems of supply.
MACE FIRM The market remains rock solid.
MARJORAM STEADY The market is steady, and demand is strong.
NUTMEG FIRM Prices remain high.
ONION STEADY The market price for Egyptian Onion Oil has increased slightly.
OREGANO STEADY The market is stable.
PAPRIKA FIRM The Indian crop has been harvested, and prices are increasing as cold stored material is balanced with increasing demand. Some buyers are wary about using Chinese material due to potential dioxin contamination.
PARSLEY HERB STEADY Stable market.
PARSLEY SEED STEADY Stable market.
PEPPER BLACK FIRM The pepper market has recorded an increase since the main Vietnamese crop started being released in February. There has been a sharp upturn in demand which has absorbed any new crop supplies reaching the market. Prices for oleoresin and essential oil remains firm.
PEPPER WHITE FIRM Generally the White Pepper market follows the trend of Black Pepper, and this is the case at present. Thus the market is firm.
PEPPERMINT FIRM Although there is a large surplus of Indian Arvensis on the market at present, a combination of factors are pushing up its market price. Disaffected farmers facing increasing costs of fuel for distillation and transport are switching to alternative cash crops. Recently the main producing state of Uttarpradesh has imposed Mandi Tax on all Mentha products, which is levied at 2.5%. In addition excise on Menthol will increase cost by +2%. The new crop is which is due in June is expected to be significantly reduced. The MCX market which is holding the biggest stocks in its warehouses is quiet at present. The market for Piperita oil is expected to firm up also.
PIMENTO STEADY The market is steady with no problems to report.
ROSEMARY STEADY The market has steadied.
SAGE FIRM The market remains firm.
SAVORY STEADY Stable market.
SPEARMINT STEADY The market has steadied.
TARRAGON STEADY We have received an early spring cutting of English Tarragon, which should keep supply in line with increasing demand for our oleoresin.
THYME STEADY Supplies of good quality herb are available again.
TURMERIC STEADY The new Indian crop has eased the pressure on the market. Supplies are available at reasonable prices.
VANILLA STEADY Last quarter there was expectation that the market had to increase due to stories that the new crop would be short, with fusarium disease blighting it, and consumption increasing. Presently demand is quiet so prices remain low, and when the new crop starts in Madagascar in June prices may soften further.
