Supplier Relationship Ethic

 

Lionel Hitchen (Essential Oils) Limited is a family business which believes strongly
in ethical principles, taking its responsibilities with regard to social accountability
very seriously. The Company is committed to conducting its business with the
highest level of integrity and ethical standards. LHEO nurtures its partnerships
with suppliers and business partners, which since the beginning have been based

These are critical factors in this industry, and these are ensured and developed
through close collaboration between the Company and its suppliers. Lionel
Hitchen (Essential Oils) Ltd is proud to guarantee that it trades in accordance with
the following Ethical Trading Criteria (ETI Base code):


1. Employment is freely chosen
2. Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are respected
3. Working conditions are safe and hygienic
4. Child labour shall not be used
5. Living wages are paid
6. Working hours are not excessive
7. No discrimination is practised
8. Regular employment is provided
9. No harsh or inhumane treatment is allowed

1. Employment is freely chosen

LHEO does not engage in or support forced, bonded or involuntary labour.
Employees are not required to lodge identification documents, passports or work
permits with the Company and will never be forced to make deposits of funds as a
condition of being recruited. Employees are free to leave the Company after
giving reasonable notice.

2. Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are respected


All employees have the right to join or form trade unions of their own choosing and
to bargain collectively. LHEO adopts an open attitude towards the activities of
trade unions and their organisational activities and does not discriminate against
worker representatives.

3. Working conditions are safe and hygienic


A safe and healthy working environment is provided and safe working practices
and procedures developed through effective hazard analysis, training and
experience.

All necessary steps are taken to prevent accidents and injury to health arising out
of, associated with, or occurring in the course of work, by minimising, so far as is
reasonably practicable, the causes of hazards inherent in the working
environment.
Employees receive regular and recorded health and safety training and all new
employees receive a thorough health and safety induction. Employees have
access to clean restroom facilities, individual protection equipment and training for
their use. Sanitary facilities for food storage are provided. The Company has
assigned day to day responsibility for Health and Safety to a Health, Safety and
Environment Manager.
 

4. Child labour shall not be used


The Company does not recruit child labour and the minimum age of employees is
consistent with UK law.
 

5. Living wages are paid


Remuneration meets at least national, legal standards or industry benchmark
standards. All employees are provided with written information about their
employment conditions in respect of remuneration before they enter employment
and about the particulars of their wages for the pay period concerned each time
that they are paid.
 

6. Working hours are not excessive


Working hours comply with local legislation and employees are not required to
work in excess of 48 hours per week on a regular basis and are provided with at
least one day off for every 7 day period. Overtime is voluntary, does not exceed
12 hours per week, is not demanded on a regular basis and is paid at time and a
half.
 

7. No discrimination is practised


LHEO is committed to ensuring equal opportunities, fairness of treatment, dignity,
work-life balance and the elimination of all forms of discrimination in the
workplace. LHEO treats all employees and job applicants equally and fairly
irrespective of their sex, marital status, civil partnership status, trans-gender
status, sexual orientation, race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, national origin,
culture, religion, age, or disability.
LHEO is also committed to ensuring that no policy, procedure, provision, rule,
requirement, condition or criterion will be imposed on any employee or job
applicant without justification if it would be likely to put that person at a
disadvantage on any of the above grounds. This applies to all stages of the
recruitment and selection process, as well as throughout individuals’ employment.
 

8. Regular employment is provided


LHEO complies with national legislation in its obligations to provide regular
employment to its employees. Social security benefits and payments comply with
laws and regulations for all types of workers who are contracted to perform work
for the Company.
 

9. No harsh or inhumane treatment is allowed


LHEO does not tolerate physical abuse or discipline, the threat of physical abuse,
sexual or other harassment and verbal abuse or other forms of intimidation under
any circumstances.
